Narrabri West wins the 2007 Harris Award!

Narrabri West has been announced as a 2007 winner of the H.T.B. Harris Memorial Award. This highly prestigious and much sought after award was inaugurated in 1984 by the New England Regional Group of the Australian College of Educators (ACE).

We nominated our work with the Australian Government Quality Teaching Indigenous Project (AGQTIP). We have developed a significant program and approach that has led to the fulfilment of specific educational needs. These include:

  • Providing teachers with the professional development required in order to improve student engagement and achievement;
  • Catering for differences in learning styles and abilities, increasing student direction and developing greater student ownership and responsibility for their learning; and
  • Strengthening and augmenting our teaching and professional learning culture in order to benefit all students.

The Harris Award was presented at an awards dinner and presentation in Armidale on Friday 26th October which was attended by a number of school staff.
